Hands-on: HTC Desire Eye may just have the world's sharpest selfies
The HTC Desire Eye is a smartphone that Ellen Degeneres would envy, packing a 13-megapixel front camera for selfies and another 13-MP shooter on the rear. Both cameras sport a backside illuminated sensor for better low-light shots, and both are paired with a dual-LED flash. You can even shoot using both cameras at once in split-screen mode.
We spent a few minutes with a near-final unit of the Desire Eye, and it looks and feels like a premium phone despite its mid-range target audience.
Although it's made of polycarbonate instead of the One M8's metal, the Desire Eye is one sleek smartphone. The white color with red accent is meant to give off a youthful vibe, and we like the soft-touch feel. Plus, because the red strip is injection molded, there are no unsightly lines. Unfortunately, having such a large lens above the screen not only looks a bit awkward, but also adds to the height of the device. We had to stretch our fingers more than we wanted to in order to operate the Desire Eye. Want to take some stills or video on a water ride at the theme park or at your kids' soccer game in the rain? The Desire Eye should have you covered with its waterproof unibody design. It can withstand 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes. There's also a dedicated two-step camera key for focusing and capturing shots.
